Carl Weathers (born January 14, 1948)[1] is an actor, former professional football player and a voice actor for Regular Show.[1][2][3]

Early lifeEdit

He was born in New Orleans, Louisiana.[1] He attended high school at Polytechnic High School and then attended college at Long Beach City College before attending San Diego State University on an athletic scholarship, majoring in theater arts and minoring in football.[1][4][5] He almost graduated from San Diego State with a bachelor's degree in Dramatic Arts, but left six hours short of earning his degree to play pro-football for the NFL.[1][6]

CareerEdit

FootballEdit

At 6'2" and weighing 220 1bs, he became a professional football player of the National Football League after signing with the Oakland Raiders as a free agent in 1970.[1][2] He would play two seasons for the Raiders, 1970 and 1971, playing in eight games as a linebacker.[2] After 1971, he left the NFL to join the CFL, where he played for the BC Lions for three seasons until retiring from football in 1974.[1]

ActingEdit

He began acting in 1975 on the television show Good Times and appeared in the Blaxploitation films Bucktown and Friday Foster.[1] He then portrayed Apollo Creed in the Oscar-winning film Rocky, reprising the role in three sequels.[1] He then had his first leading role in the 1988 crime drama Action Jackson, which was received poorly and was a box office flop.[1] He has since acted in more humorous work, portraying Chubbs in Happy Gilmore and Tobias Funke's acting coach on the sitcom Arrested Development.[1] He has also dabbled in voiceovers, providing the voices of Kirby in Balto III: Wings of Change, Combat Carl in Toy Story of Terror and the God of Basketball on Regular Show.[3] Weathers is also a member of the Big Brothers Association and the United States Olympic Committee.[1]
