Donald McKinley Glover, Jr.[1] (born September 25, 1983)[2] is a writer, musician, comedian, rapper and a voice actor for Regular Show who voiced the rapper, Alpha-Dog in "Rap It Up".[3]

Early life

Donald McKinley Glover, Jr. was born on September 25, 1983 in California on Edwards Air Force Base to his parents, Beverly and Donald Glover, Sr.[4] He was then raised in Stone Mountain, Georgia alongside his biological brother and sister and half-siblings, who were foster children adopted by his parents.[5][3][4] His parents are Jehovah's witnesses.[5] He attended Rockbridge Elementary School and the DeKalb School of the Arts before attending New York University's Tisch School of the Arts, where he graduated with a degree in Dramatic Writing in 2006.[4] He was later hired to work on 30 Rock as a writer.[5] At Tisch, he studied improvisation and comedy writing with the Upright Citizens Brigade.[3]

Career

For his work as a writer on 30 Rock, he was nominated for a Writers Guild Award.[6] He plays Troy Barnes on the NBC comedy, Community.[5] He has also appeared on Late Night with Conan O'Brien.[3] He had his own Comedy Central special in 2010 and won the inaugural Rising Comedy Star of the Year Award at the 2010 Just for Laughs Comedy Central Festival.[3] He is also a rapper and comedian who goes by the stage name "Childish Gambino."[5] As a rapper he has released three mix-tapes: I Am Just a Rapper, I Am Just a Rapper 2 and Royalty, as well as releasing three studio albums, Camp, Because the Internet and Awaken, My Love!
