Appearance

Margaret is a red-breasted robin[1]. Her feathers are red and white in color; her beak is curved. She has brownish spots on the sides of her head, which are comma shaped, and a curved hairstyle. When she isn't working, she usually wears jeans and yellow shirts except in Caffeinated Concert Tickets and often dresses rather provocatively. Her personality can be described as a kind-hearted, caring, and down-to-earth girl. She's only ever gotten mad once at Mordecai in Butt Dial because he tried to remove the embarrasing voicemail by hacking into her phone but once she heard the voicemail she ended up saving it as her ringtone and forgave Mordecai.

Relationships

Mordecai

Mordecai is one of her best friends, and could possibly become her boyfriend. Episodes that Margaret appear in are usually accompanied by a failed attempt by Mordecai to initiate a conversation, which proves to be an arduous task itself.

In Season One, the two appear to be friends ever since Margaret's first appearance in Caffeinated Concert Tickets (and possibly earlier). Much to Mordecai's dismay, Margaret seems to be totally oblivious toward Mordecai's interest on her, even showing off her other dates (one of which she dumped right away) in front of him.

In Meat Your Maker while Mordecai was unconscious, Mordecai was having a dream about him and Margaret on a tropical island. Margaret was wearing a bikini top made of shells, and Mordecai had abs and muscles. The two spin, until a gigantic Rigby comes out of the ground, saying "Hey Mordecai! I can FIX IT!", and knocks Margaret down.

In Season Two, the two of them seemingly begin to develop more than just a friendship, albeit more haphazardly.

In It's Time, Mordecai helped Margaret move out of her old apartment, by loading boxes into the moving truck. During this time, Rigby asks Margaret out on a date to make Mordecai as jealous as possible. When Mordecai shoves all of the clocks inside the microwave, they get transported to Father Time. Mordecai is so jealous that he shoves Rigby off the microwave, killing him. Father Time lets him off the hook, and goes back in time. When asked if he was jealous that Rigby broke a date with Margaret, Mordecai admitted he was a little jealous. After this episode, Mordecai developed the fear of microwaves.

In High Score, Mordecai impresses Margaret by beating the high score to Broken Bonez, a new arcade game that was installed by her manager. When he beats the high score, Margaret runs over to Mordecai to give him a hug.

In Do Me a Solid, Rigby kept using solids because Mordecai made Rigby do a solid to go out with Eileen so Mordecai can go out with Margaret for 10 solids. He keeps using up his solids to ruin Mordecai's date. When asked to do a tenth solid, Mordecai denies it, and the house starts crumbling into lava. Margaret then confesses that she only tagged along because she was doing Eileen a solid to go out with Rigby. He finally does the tenth solid, which is never released to the audience due to the fact that he was possibly doing something that would never get past the censors.

Despite the aforementioned "bumps on the road," the two keep their friendship intact. At this time, Margaret spends more time with Mordecai, mostly since she lacks any boyfriends in each episode, unlike Season One.

In Season Three, there are numerous times when the two appear much more closer than they normally were.

In the episode Slam Dunk, Mordecai agrees to build a website for Margaret, but Muscle Man hogs the computer even though he is out playing basketball. After being shot up into space, and coming back down, Margaret informs him that that was two months ago, and Eileen did it for her, but Margaret thought he was pretty hot out there.

In the episode House Rules, Mordecai and Rigby leave The Park and they ask if they can stay at the Coffee Shop, but Margaret can't allow them due to her manager's rules, but Margaret calls Mordecai a revel.

In the episode Camping Can Be Cool, Mordecai, Rigby, and Eileen try to make Margaret go camping since she has never been camping before. After a musical montage of them doing various outdoor activities (hiking, swimming, wildlife spotting), the two of them are lying on the hood of Margaret's car, using the windshield as a headrest, while Rigby and Eileen are playing video games. They talk about how Margaret is planning to quit her job at The Coffee Shop once she graduates, much to Mordecai's displeasure. In the middle of all of is, Mordecai looks at Margaret's hand, wanting to hold it, but wusses out.

In Cruisin', Mordecai and Rigby make a bet with Margaret and Eileen that cruising will get you a girl's number. (Margaret actually calls them "dorks"). Winner gets to pick where to eat, and loser has to pay for it. However, Margaret and Eileen have two fake dates, Tuck Packerd, and Chad "Ironchest". After Mordecai and Rigby crash Pop's car in a tree at Twine Peaks Mall, Margaret and Eileen come to their aide. Faking that they have to go to the hospital, Margaret and Eileen give their numbers so they can reschedule. However, they never said anything about THEIR numbers, so Mordecai and Rigby won the bet, but Margaret and Eileen got to choose the restaurant. Margaret decided "Best Sandwiches in Town" (The Coffee Shop), and holds Mordecai's hand.

In the episode Butt Dial, Margaret hears Mordecai's embarrassing message (in which he sings about her and how it would be if they were together) and surprisingly sets it as a ring tone for when Mordecai calls her. She also tells him that he'd better call her more often. This could imply that Margaret and Mordecai are possibly becoming more than friends and might be building a relationship. In the episode "Yes Dude Yes," she gets jealous of Mordecai for spending time with another girl, CJ. In Yes Dude Yes, she gladly accepts Mordecai's invitation to go see Love Bot 2. However, when CJ comes and confuses the situation, she doesn't go to the movies with him.

In the episode Yes Dude Yes, Margaret is revealed to secretly have a crush on Mordecai as Mordecai secretly has a crush on Margaret because Margaret gets jealous. Mordecai also thinks that she's with another man as he is kneeling down on one knee and Margaret is yelling "Yes Dude Yes", but later in the episode it is revealed that he is really Margaret's cousin, John who got a new leg.

Another hint between a relationship between Margaret and Mordecai is during the episode Access Denied when Eileen says to Margaret that she knows that Margaret is waiting to dance with Mordecai. At the end of the episode, they end up dancing, therefore increasing the relationship between the two.

In the episode Death Bear, Mordecai and Margaret spend a lot of time together, talking about the memories that Mordecai had when he visited the Zoo when he was a kid. Later on in the episode, Mordecai attempts to kiss Margeret, and if the episode is paused at a certain point, it shows that Margaret wanted to kiss him back, but before she could do that, the Death Bear appears and chases them away. At the end of the episode, Margaret thanks him for being brave and saving her life, and affectionately hugs him, unlike High Score, where she only hugged him because he beat the world record.

In the episode Bad Kiss, her and Mordecai had their "first kiss". Margaret found Mordecai`s breath bad and he then left, but Margaret did not want him to leave, showing that she enjoyed the kiss, even if Mordecai had bad breath.

Overall, it is very possible that Margaret likes Mordecai back, given all of the evidence shown throughout Season Three with the main one being in Butt Dial when Mordecai reveals how hot she is in a voicemail. Hints are in Camping Can Be Cool when they were nearly holding hands, in Access Denied when Margaret dances with Mordecai, and in Death Bear when Mordecai and Margaret almost kiss, and also in Bad Kiss because at the end she found it an "awkard moment" and closed her eyes with her beak pointed out as if she was gonna kiss him but Mordecai, not wanting to screw it up a second time, just dodges the kiss, and saves it for another time, possibly during Season 4. By her reaction when he found his wallet, Margaret had a cool expression on the outside, but possibly felt pretty upset on the inside.

Rigby

Margaret rarely interacts directly to Rigby, but in "It's Time," Rigby makes Margaret laugh, and almost manages to go to a movie with her. She seems to like Rigby since they made a date but this could be mistaken.

Eileen

Margaret and Eileen are best friends the way Mordecai and Rigby are. She is close to Eileen and does solids for her all the time (Do Me a Solid). Margaret hopes for Eileen and Rigby to become closer. It is unknown why Eileen was introduced in the first place.

Pops

Margaret does not seem to interact much with Pops, but in "Butt Dial," she tells him to get her cell phone.

Muscle Man

Margaret has only ever interacted with Muscle Man once in Do Me a Solid when Eileen, Margaret, and uninvited Muscle Man were having Ice Cream Sandwhiches at Mordecai and Rigby's house. Muscle Man said "Hey ladies, look at what ELSE I can do with my Ice Cream Sandwich!". Disgusted, Margaret tells Mordecai from the other room that she kans on going soon.

Minor Characters

Angel

Angel formerly had a relationship with Margaret during the end of Mordecai and the Rigbys. This was before Margaret knew Mordecai had a crush on her.

Slasher

Slasher was formerly Margret's boyfriend, but they broke up when he made fun of Mordecai.

Family

Father

Margaret has a close relationship with her father. In "Do Me a Solid," she mentions that her father used to bring her to play mini golf when she was a child and her phone password is 'Daddy's Girl' as seen in Butt Dial. In "Diary," she says she "can only take her parents for so long".

John

John is Margaret's cousin. They seem to be close as she was happy when he got a new leg. Unfortunately for Mordecai he thought John was Margaret's new boyfriend and she was engaged to him.

Trivia

  • Even though she is introduced in Caffeinated Concert Tickets, Mordecai seems to already know her, it is unknown when though
  • The name Margaret is of English origin. It's meaning is derived from from the Latin 'Margarita' which was Greek for pearl.
  • In Camping Can Be Cool, Margaret mentions that she attends a college in the City and also plans to quit her job at the Coffee Shop as soon as she graduates (much to Mordecai's chagrin). Earlier in the same episode, she also mentions that she hasn't had a boyfriend for a while. The last time she has had a boyfriend was in Mordecai and the Rigbys (also one fake boyfriend in Cruisin'), although in Do Me a Solid she mentioned that she was seeing someone.
  • It is very possible that she returns Mordecai's feelings because she is really nice, caring, and supportive of him and seems to like him a lot as a friend
  • Margaret's car strongly resembles a Second Generation Three Door Honda Accord Coupe/Hatchback (1982-1985).
  • In Do Me a Solid and Cruisin', Margaret wears the same outfit.
  • In High Score, Margaret hugs Mordecai after he and Rigby beat the world record of Broken Bonez.
  • Mordecai is the only person she calls "Dude" most of the time
  • Originally, Margaret wasn't going to wear clothing like Mordecai; however, this was changed for unknown reasons, possibly because she is female.
  • Benson calls her the "coffee girl" in Yes Dude Yes.
  • Margaret is shown to be a fan of adventure movies as seen in the beginning of Death Bear.
  • She seems to be nicer to Mordecai than the way Rigby and other characters are.
  • In the episode Bad Kiss, Mordecai and Margaret kissed and said he had bad breath.
