Is the American Godzilla a girl?

I'm confused about something.
Earlier today, I watched the American version of Godzilla from 1998. It shows Godzilla laying eggs which turn into baby Godzillas. Doesn't that make Godzilla a girl in that movie? Heck, I'm even wondering if the JAPANESE Godzilla is a girl.
You see, in the movie, Godzilla vs MechaGodzilla, there was a thing with a big egg that hatched into a Baby Godzilla. So, doesn't that make the Japanese Godzilla a woman, too? I'm confused.
